Jing is the root of life and the fundamental substance that sustains reproductive and vital functions. As the source of life, jing enables us to maintain our physical body and ensure the continuation of life. The Qihai and Guanyuan acupoints are precisely where jing accumulates.
As the name suggests, Qihai is the “sea of qi”—the reservoir where primordial qi, inherent from birth, accumulates and which serves as the very root of life. The Guanyuan acupoint is the fundamental source for the generation of male essence; an ancient saying goes that even octogenarians and nonagenarians can regain their youthful vigor—this refers precisely to the remarkable efficacy of the Guanyuan point. Moxibustion applied to the Qihai and Guanyuan points imparts abundant vitality, dispels fatigue, and markedly enhances both reproductive and sexual functions.
The Qihai acupoint is located on the anterior midline, one and a half cun below the navel, while the Guanyuan acupoint is situated three cun below the navel. If we divide the distance from the navel to the pubic symphysis into five equal parts, the third division point downward from the navel corresponds to the Guanyuan acupoint; the midpoint between the first and second division points downward from the navel is the Qihai acupoint.
